Lucas Digne

FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain FC to sign the 22 year old French player Lucas Digne for the next five seasons.

Barça have paid an initial 16.5 million euros with another four possible according to individual and team results. Digne’s buy out clause is 60 million euros.

I thought this signing was a bit odd, are Barcelona not happy with Alba?

Digne has played pretty consistently the past 4 seasons, so I find it strange he would hop to Barca, when Alba plays most every game.

I don't have all the facts but that is my impression- what's going on?

Alba is horrible. I don't have any idea about Digne but he shouldn't have too much trouble benching Alba.

The club is trying to find proper players to back up our starters, because our bench sucked and our first 11 gassed last season, and our left back options were very thin last year. When Alba got injured, he practically had to play through injuries most of the season (and it seriously showed second half) because Adriano was always injured too and Mathieu sucks at left back (and openly complains when we play him there out of necessity). Adriano is also 31 I believe, so it was time to get someone to actually help with Albas work load and can help build for the future, and it will also help in the event Alba gets injured again; we will have someone else to step in. Plus competition is good-since Alba arrived he didn't have anyone in his position that could potentially worry about benching him.

How is a guy that is not good enough for PSG good enough for us? He couldn't start over Maxwell

He isn't gonna be a starter for us either, he is coming here to take Adriano's role and we will try to mold him to something better. Stats wise, he was actually better than Alba last season in certain areas (I know those are deceiving because different leagues and what not), but the point is for a back up and his age he is a better option than Adriano. Alba is still our starter. And before some one says, no shit Alba sucks...yall are right Alba isn't the best either but he has been good enough for us

He's with us now though, might as well support him and try to look at the bright side. He can turn out to be a very solid rotational player who knows

Is this the same PSG where Marquinhos isn't good enough to start over David Luiz?

Wouldn't be the first player who doesn't get game time in a club and explodes somewhere else. Especially as he is young.

Yes, I made one spelling mistake while a two year old can type better than you.

Also, Barcelona is doing seriously good in this transfer window. After this, will Roberto and Aleix take the right back spot? I'm of the opinion that Roberto can easily play and improve in that position.

Hopefully, Danilo performs slightly better than Lucas in the upcoming season. That way, the former could regain some of his digneity.

Anyway, I don't know a single thing about him (can't be bothered watching a league like Ligue 1) so I won't judge him before the season starts. Hopefully he can play well enough to displace Alba. If not, I'm not really seeing the point. I guess having a back up is alright, but if your backup can't displace Alba then you're really not fixing anything.

well he is still fairly young.

alba to me is more a specialty player, three strong suits:
pacey
makes good runs for messi throughballs
stamina

whereas digne.. doesn't seem to really have a specialty but is overall a okay player (being okay in defense is still a huge stepup from alba)

but overall we have to see more of him, he is still young and can improve, if alba plays like last season i dont see a problem in digne taking his spot

As long as Alba has competition I think he will improve

From what I've seen so far he should kick Alba out of the starting XI soon enough Shown he's more solid at the back and going forward he's meh so far but so is Alba. Maybe with Neymar he'd be better.
