Bertrand-Clyne should be fullbacks. If Rose or Walker start we are done

This was what Hoddle said during commentary (paraphrasing):

"Wilshere is playing at the base of the diamond, so he needs to make sure he protects the defence"

After Wilshere plays a 1-2 with Lallana and then a through ball:

"He needs to go forward and let Drinkwater/Henderson sit in"

Bare in mind Wilshere is playing DM Laughing

If he has to do both what are the other three midfielders there for ffs.

Milner and Rooney on for Wilshere and Lallana.

England playing 4-3-3 now. Rooney playing 9, Sterling RW, Rashford LW. Milner into midfield.

Midfield trio of Drinkwater, Milner and Henderson rofl

Goal Rooney.

Decent counter-attack, finished very well by Rooney.

If we perform like we've done against Turkey and Australia in the tournament we'll get smashed. Both teams found it far too easy to play through our midfield.

Our U21s won the Toulon Tournament today, beating France 2-1 in the final. They won every game in the tournament, albeit against weak opposition - they beat Portgual 1-0, Guinea 7-1, Paraguay 4-0 and Japan 1-0. Last England team to win this competition was 22 years ago, was captained by Jamie Redknapp and had David James and Alan Shearer in it.

Interesting thing about it is that they played most of the tournament without a recognised centre forward, and played two wingers up front in a diamond. Today's team, for example, was:

Pickford

Iorfa - Chambers - Hause - Targett

Chalobah

Ward-Prowse - Baker

Loftus-Cheek

Whatmore - Redmond

Baker was top scorer with four goals, Loftus-Cheek got three and Redmond got a couple as well.

It's quite impressive since James Wilson, Chuba Akpom and Marcus Rashford were all unavailable due to other commitments (play-offs, being in the senior squad).

England 23-man squad now confirmed. Delph (already injured), Drinkwater and Townsend left out.

Drinkwater will be like. What more should i do to get a call. Crying or Very sad
Happy for Rashers. The experience alone will benefit him immensely. Will cheer for England now.

The outcry over leaving Drinkwater is hilarious

Spain are leaving players like Saul, Cazorla and Mata while England is crying over Drinkwater rofl

Should have kept Townsend. England have no one who can take the ball and run at defenders. Sturridge at best, but he probably won't be starting. It will be too easy to defend against England. Lacks creativity. Their best hope would have been Carroll knocking 'em down but Hodgson thought that taking 5 similar strikers getting starved of service was wiser instead.

England team to play Portugal tonight:

Hart; Walker, Smalling, Cahill, Rose; Dier, Milner, Alli, Rooney; Kane, Vardy

That defence rofl

That midfield rofl

This is the starting team for the Euros, in all likelihood.

Our flanks are going to get destroyed with those full-backs and Alli having to protect one side.

Portugal's team:

Patricio; Vieirinha, Bruno Alves, Carvalho, Eliseu; Danilo, Moutinho, Adrien, Joao Mario; Rafa Silva, Nani

No centre forward, looks they're playing a diamond as well.
