i was being ironic when i said "rite?".it's clear Gago could get injured any minute and make your creativity in midfield much weaker.I don't rate Biglia at all

Who the fu*k is Augusto Fernandez? Banega being dropped is big surprise.

Not sure how Banega didn't make the cut...that's really weird. At least Sosa is out I guess FWIW. Hopefully he never sees the NT again. Biglia is hit and a miss because he doesn't have nearly enough creativity as Gago, but Enzo Perez might be able to fill in a bit better. Maybe Biglia is a replacement for Mascherano? Also why even call up Augusto Fernandez? I feel someone like Gaitan would have been a better option for a Di Maria backup.

As for our defence, might as well stick to what we have been using for the entire campaign.

It's not much of a surprise that Banega doesn't make it. He didn't have a role in the entire qualifier stages. Played about 45 minutes total I believe.

Unbelievable selection by Sabella to leave Banega out.

Our midfield is going to get dominated by most teams that have a shot at the World Cup.

Seriously talking ... I would not be so worried about defence. Oh, that GK is mediocre and you could resolve much with Caballero ... but you have always Garay one of best defenders in Europe and Zabaleta best RB in the world imo
Demichelis is improved in last period of year, he played also better than Kompany.
He remained enough limited but Garay is a leader and he can fill his gaps

All is about that midfield.
Argentina has not reserve, that is the point.

Mascherano is the key of all , most important player in this NT, even more than Messi imho.
He should be dipped in the waters of the River Styx, so as to be invulnerable , and possibily also the heel , in this case.
Similar matter for Di Maria, another player with no good replacements , but Mascherano expecially, he is essensial for the balance of team . He IS The balance . How much would be served the old Cambiasso with Mascherano now, solid partnership who would have completed this NT and in this case Argentina would be my favored to win the Cup . and it's reason why Maradona as manager will be always a regret to have wasted a chance of title

Argentina would be relatively fine though. Clearly the midfield and defense are real issues but Argentina honestly isn't known for their defensive efforts. The attacking third would have to make up for that one.

Also, 2006 was Argentina's best chance since 1990 in my opinion. That squad was so well balanced, so good. Pekerman just messed up at the wrong time...

2002 was the best team of that WC on paper . for me . Anyway the manager was Bielsa. He was confirmed even after that failure because the players were falled in love for him ... and then he got good results  , so right choice

Although Argentina has always great NTs , it doesn't reach the semi-finals since 1990. Strange also if we consider the fact that Argentina 90 was inferior to all the other NT followed in the years. But the Argentina 90 was close to win that WC just because they had Diego Armando Maradona and because they played "anti-football" so as to reach the penalty kicks aware of their limitations. There wasn't a match who really deserved to win to Italy 90 , asking to URSS , Brazil , Iugoslavia and Italy.
In Italy the ppl still "suffer" to have missed the homemade WC because of them,

The more I think about it the more outraged I am. Romero is still somehow our goalkeeper, whereas Willy will watch it from home. We are only taking ONE fullback for the entire competition. Nevermind our CBs, if Zaba gets injured both our FBs will play as CBs for their clubs Could he really not find any space for one of Vangioni, Peruzzi or Ansaldi? Sabella did the right thing by calling up Enzo, but I'm afraid that he will be second choice to both Biglia (for Gago) and Maxi (for Di Maria). If Maxi enters for Di Maria we will essentially be playing 4-2-4.

I would rather trust Sabella. He has brought the team really far since he took over. Hence even though all his selections may not appeal the whole thing does look much better than WC 2010.
