New CB bought - Clement Lenglet
So this is a bit of a surprise? A starter CB from Sevilla. Never paid attention to this player, anyone know more about him?
This is a bit strange also meaning Mina seemingly was gonna be given more chances rather then just a backup would now more likely to just stay as a backup?

Re: New CB bought - Clement Lenglet
He's your Umtiti back-up.
Lenglet was one of Monchi's last signings for Sevilla, joining halfway through the 16/17 season from Nancy for a modest price.
He went straight into the team for a game against Real Madrid and impressed with his composure on the ball and courage to pass forward through pressure.
It's that attribute that probably attracted Barcelona to him in the first place. He's a decent passer and left-footed.
Defensively, he held up well in a shambolic Sevilla defence. He wasn't without his errors and goofs, but for me at least he was the most consistent defender Sevilla had since he joined.
He's strong in the air and a decently clean tackler. However, he can give away quite a few fouls by over-reaching for the ball or by making a challenge he doesn't need to make (he got 9 yellow cards last year, compared to Kjaer's 3, for example). That's probably down to his age/lack of experience at this level. It's an issue of timing and anticipation rather than aggression.
There's potential there, but I can't see him being a consistent starter for you over Umtiti or Pique.

Decent signing, definitely an improvement over Yerry Mina who we couldn't count on

We've been linked to Lenglet for months, it's hardly a suprise.....
I expect Yerry to be sold/loaned out

Another flop in the making. Can't wait for him to join Stoke City as a back up central defender

Re: New CB bought - Clement Lenglet
Had had a great month after a not so impressive start. Was meant to be a backup to Umtiti. Instead found himself in the starting lineup due to Umtiti being sidelined with a knee injury.
I didnt think he was defensively solid. His passing ability and composure on the ball was obvious from the start. But defensively he was suspect. Specifically, when he went up to press the CF, got way too easily turned for my liking. Didnt think he could be more than a backup. But he has stepped up very well over the past month. Defensively solid in crunch games. Definitely good enough to be a 3rd choice CB and good value for what we paid in the current market.
