Go back to previous build and force stop updates. Won't lose any files etc.

Anniversary update they launched recently has more problems than benefits.

Mines not been that bad tbh hmm

It still updates automatically every now and again.

Would it be better to buy a pc though with windows 10 already built in?

*bleep* hate the update. You can't disable it only delay it. Takes forever to finish an update.

Didn't know where to post this but i'm planning to buy a prebuilt PC since my PC of 7 years has died

Code: 1656713

https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1656713

I know i know, buying individual parts is much cheaper, i did that before. Now i cba to to do it again, i know there are places that can assemble that, but i just cba.

How long do you think this will last with its specs? My guess is around the 5-7 years but i wanna hear what everyone thinks

I'd say depending on what you want to do with it. If you want to game on max settings, no PC ever built will last longer than 2-3 years. If you want to dump some money now and ride the PC for as long as it'll reasonably last, 4-6 years is reasonable.

Of course you can get the same setup in a PC for about $4000 elsewhere, but since you've selected a 14k prebuilt, I feel like you don't care about money, so you should be fine on that front.

I just think that ultra high-end specs are never worth the monetary markup, for that last 2-3% of performance you end up paying double.

Three things though, you should really consider aside the rest:
- You only got SSDs for storage. SSDs last a finite number of cycles and will die within a few years. At least get some cheap 3TB HDD to store your documents and movies etc on.
- Your chassis has a red finish, but your LED fans are blue, that shit will give you eye cancer.
- At that price range you might really just as well build in a Blu-Ray drive, instead of DVD.

All in all I salute your method of selecting the most expensive components, and I chuckled a bit at it, but it could do with some improvement.

Also, since this is the Win10 thread: People pondering Win10 should consider that people who never have problems with Win10 (like me) usually don't talk about Win10. Public opinion about non-hipster OS is usually negative.

Where did you get your info on SSDs failing so quickly? I can't find anything corroborating that.

Though I do agree he should get a regular HDD (8TB) for extra storage since he's going balls out on everything else.

Windows 10 - Page 7 Empty Re: Windows 10

Post by Babun Tue Jun 20, 2017 7:41 pm

Surprisingly enough, Windows 10 is the first MS OS after XP that I can work well with. They copied lots of Window concepts from Gnome and KDE nicely:

shortcuts:

- windows + TAB ( overview of all active windows)
- after the above  ctrl+windows+d (creates additional virtual desktop)
- ctrl+windows+f4 closes a virtual desktop
- switching between the desktops with arrow key left or right+ctrl+windows

I have got two monitors with 2560x1440 resolution. The highlight is the window manager. I can align anny application window with arrow keys+windows (tiling commando) . That way, I fit up to 4 windows into one virtual desktop without dragging and resizing stuff. There is no reason to have Tabs anymore unless your monitor resolution is below full hd.

Next, for any installed application, one can rightclick its shortcut -> open file location -> assign a custom shortcut (which usualy consists of ctrl+alt+ a letter). I rarely use the mouse anymore.

The last part is not windows related but I will share anyways. Are you annoyed by the auto playing html5, flash, whatever videos formats in your browser? Install Firefox, in the navigation bar, type

about:config

You will see lots of options in the browser. Filter the setting we need by typing autoplay into the search bar. There will be only two options left. Set media.autoplay.enabled to false by double clicking this option. That's it, no plugin or addons needed. No video or ad will autostart anymore unless you allow.

Click onto your browser window, keep the Windows button pressend, then experiment by pressing different arrow keys. So far, I didn't encounter any bugs.

My problems with Windows 10 are as followed:
1. Font Scaling doesn't work properly unless in native resolution ( looks shitty, washed up)
2. I have to dig really deep to stop the automatic update nonsense.

Great tips Babun!

I love Windows 10 but my feud with Windows has always been that it's exposable to viruses. But I guess that's over now or am I wrong? Mac feels so safe, could browse everywhere and not worry.

Post by Myesyats Sun Aug 04, 2019 10:19 am

I have a recurring issue with my Acer Swift 3 namely- 'stuff' freezes on the screen and remains on it like a smudge.

As seen in the screenshot, what I did was right-click on the bin -> empty recycle bin -> and the "empty recycle bin" button stayed frozen on the screen /// it'll also happen if you do right-click mouse -> refresh -> the little refresh button (idk how to call it) stays on the screen and will go away only if I close the laptop and re-log in. It happens with other buttons as well.

I have plenty of free space on my hard drive so I think the laptop shouldn't be lagging.

Windows version 1803

@RealGunner, can anyone help? I tried googling this but I didn't find anyone with the same issue.

I have been forcing windows to stay on build 1709 for like a year now because of how awful their updates are and they completely messes up with my PC and drivers.

I am not sure what the problem is Myesyats but i'll look into it.

For now do this if you haven't already

Open CMD and type -> sfc/scannow

let it run

I did scannow recently and no issues were detected, about a month ago I reseted the goddamn thing to factory default so I'm quite certain it should be fine.

Okay so I noticed a pattern now. For the past few days I had the 'freezing' issue and today a pop up appeared that a Windows update is available so I did that and the issue is gone.

It'll probably return when the next Windows update is in the air. Is this lowkey a conspiracy to force me to update my system? Smh RG I think I'm being watched by the FBI

Hmm strange.

Think it's possible the windows update altered the root directory and maybe some of the files were corrupted before which it then fixed.

Microsoft are awful this way.

Couple of years ago almost about one year in with Windows 10 and an HP my hard drive crashed and became irreparable.
Took it to techs, they restored it with Windows 7 (the GOAT windows imo)

But my sound hardware was also damaged to the point where the overall sound volume is softer than usual, but I can still put in headsets and it works well, but the shame is the sound still comes out even with headsets jacked in. Thus I rarely view porn on my laptop anymore in case the people next door might hear Laughing

Also, sometimes when I jack in my headsets without playing anything on the computer, I can faintly hear music and voices that almost sounds like a radio station that the computer is crazily enough picking up on hmm crazy, I know

Dude you're picking up Alien signals from another solar system and you don't even know it

I read theres a way to shut off Win 10 and somehow install Win 7 over it? I'm not good at this stuff so its probably not true

Even if possible, it wouldn't exactly be safe, would it? Also they'll probably stop supporting it
